THINK IT THROUGH
Before you decide.
Write the trigger, inputs, decisions and expected result on one page. Include the exceptions: missing information, duplicate requests and failed connections. Check whether the systems provide supported APIs and whether you have permission to use the data. Agree how success will be judged using your own baseline. If the process changes every week or nobody owns its errors, clarify the process before automating it. Begin with a limited workflow and review actual runs.
